SongVault Artist Profile
California, United States
Tigarah grew up in Tokyo, went to a Catholic girls' school run by French nuns and later studied political science and law. After that, she needed a place to speak her mind and found it: Music. Her goal is to impact society, she constantly escapes the comfortable spaces, expresses herself and wants to make people think. After graduating, Tigarah started a worldwide music project, influenced by the mp3 collections of her international friends, and promptly embarked on a trip to Brazil. Since 2005, she recorded music with producer MR.D in Sao Paulo, Los Angeles, Berlin and Tokyo.
Being "outsiders" in the music industry (Tigarah has a degree in political science, MR.D went to medical school and studied economics), Tigarah's music is extremely fresh, bold, unconventional and international: Electro-tech meets Brazilian baile funk, pop, rap and trash rock elements. She was invited to tour in the US, Sweden, Brazil and Japan, and her music was featured in the EA games Need for Speed, Fifa 2007, Fifa 2008, and Facebreaker. Although relatively new on the scene, Tigarah already drummed up impressive international media coverage: Highlights are The LA Times, MTV Brazil, Programma do Jo (Sao Paulo), NPR and Dazed & Confused Magazine (UK).
Tigarah fights against conformity, small-mindedness and arrogance. She lists as artistic influence and inspiration: Che Guevara, Jean-Luc Godard, Michael Jackson, Blur, The Chemical Brothers, and Fatboy Slim. Her label Universal is on course to release her first full length album "Revolution" in November 2008 in Japan, with international releases to follow in 2009.
