Sean Murphy's laid back yet powerful voice no doubt has its beginnings from his roots in Lanikai, on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. While Seanís style has been influenced by artists such as Dave Matthews,
Jack Johnson and Bob Dylan, Sean Murphy is in a league all his own in todayís cookie-cutter, lip-syncing industry. Seanís raw and sincere lyrics captivate a broad audience, and are already gaining high visibility in Japan (he is Top 5 in the charts), Canada, the Netherlands and Australia.
Seanís passion for music began at an early age, always keen to take advantage of any performance opportunities that came his way. When he was only eight years old, Sean began guitar lessons and before long performing with local bands, eventually choosing a solo path. Seanís sound was further personalized and enhanced as he started writing songs fueled by emotion, creating deep and meaningful lyrics.
Eventually Seanís love of singing and songwriting lead him to an interest in playing a number of instruments including guitar, drums, piano, and sitar (a plucked stringed instrument mainly used in
Hindustani classical music). The first single, "UsĒ touches the feelings we have all had when we have loved and lost.
Sean also uses his music to support charitable causes he is passionate about. In 2005 Sean was asked to perform live for the Hawaii Hurricane
Katrina benefit concert, alongside legendary Grammy Nominated performer and mentor Henry Kapono. The touching performance was a huge hit with broadcast and live audiences.
Moonlight Entertainment Records, was quick to sign Sean Murphy in his first record deal. Sean is working on a debut full-length album, titled One Life, scheduled for release on August 28, 2009.
Sean has no shortage of inspiration. Here are just a few examples:
Fly Away - "I woke up in the middle of the night with Fly Away in my head and I wrote down a few lines. Have you ever loved someone so much, yet it hurt to be around them?"
Fall Out - "Fall Out is a very meaningful song for me. I just wrote the words I felt at the time, and this song was the result. A touching song for many people."
One Life - "Sitting on my beach in Hawaii when I was 16, made me think about how short life is, and how we spend so much time on things other than life and love, and what waste that is. The message is; we need to enjoy each day to its fullest."
Same Damn Thing - "I was watching a show on MTV one night, and it involved a girl who was a dancer at a club. She was looking for a way to make a better life for herself. I could sense the sadness in her voice, and that's what inspired me to write this song."
This talented new artist does not have to explain his music to his fans, because they get it! Sean has a long and successful career ahead of him, and is bound to become a household name. Sean Murphy rocks, quite literally.
