Bio Poetess Black Jewel is a native of Jacksonville. She has more than twenty-six years of writing experience, and has been performing poetry locally and abroad in spoken word venues and ministry events since 2001. Black Jewel is also very active in her community where she has ministered her gift at events such as the World of Nations, The Kuumba Festival, and The First Annual Ms. Bright Future Pageant, held at the Historical Ritz Theater and LaVilla Museum. Additionally, she has conducted poetry camps and workshops for local churches, elementary and high schools; and has traveled as far Miami and New York performing in venues such as South Florida’s “Attack the Mic,” and the WBLS Caribbean-American Bridal Expo, in Manhattan. Black Jewel had the privilege of being interviewed as a special guest on “The Show,” broadcasted on WZAZ Gospel 1400 The Light, in 2007, to promote the release of her first volume of poetry titled Tranquil Soul. In addition to being an Author and Poet, Black Jewel is a singer, song writer and praise dancer, who is totally committed to using all the gifts God has blessed her with, to motivate and inspire others! Black Jewel has also hosted her own poetry venue called “Bless My Soul,” An Eccentric Evening of Lyrical Expression of the arts through song, dance, rap and spoken word. She is currently preparing for “Do the Christ Thing,” a stage play written & directed by Black Jewel that debuted back on April 19, 2008. She is currently doing the Judah Experience tour In addition to using her talents and gifts to inspire others, this young woman also has an encouraging testimony of how God delivered her out of an abusive marriage which she openly shares in her upcoming book titled, "Trail of My Tears."
