SongVault Artist Profile
New York, United States
Alternative Rap / Electronic
joe DOE is a hybrid music artist from the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York, USA. He is the creator of a genre called sykophunk, which is often described as hip hop influenced by metal, gothic, and electronic music. An extremely active recording artist, DOE has recorded 2 full-length albums every year since 2003, recording 102 songs in 2009 alone. In his travels, he has been part of the live scenes of east and west coast, as well as the midwest. He is also a member of Triple Vision, has collaborated with other artists from both sides of the Atlantic and creates instrumental music under his birth name Joseph VanBuren.
After releasing numerous free songs on sykophunk.com (including the mixtape EP Who the Hell is joe DOE?!), joe DOE released a new album entitled Democalypse. According to DOE, it is his "most musically challenging album ever. Though the songs are mostly built around banging beats and intricate rhymes, there's a lot more emphasis on melody and mood now too." The concept behind Democalypse (a combination of the words democracy and apocalypse) is a depiction of a near-future world in which an apocalypse occurs because of mankind's own selfishness and greed, and the revolution needed to save the human species from itself.
Other claims to fame include getting song placement on The Colbert Report and getting on a mixtape along side members of the Wu Tang Clan. Future plans include licensing instrumental music for media placement, working on a new Triple Vision mixtape, and publishing works of literature accompanied by soundtracks.
