D.C. Hathaway is a BMI affiliated singer, songwriter, producer, engineer, studio musician and talent developer residing in Imperial Beach, CA, just outside of San Diego. His old friends and family know him as Dwain but D.C. stuck after spending many years in radio broadcasting that began in his hometown of Claremont, NH at WTSV, with years at WCLB (now WKLB) in Boston and WDKN in Dickson, Tennessee on the outskirts of Nashville.
While in Music City, D.C. performed with his good friends Larry Johnson, co-writer of Tim McGraw’s Grammy nominated song “Don’t Take The Girl” and Jess Leary, writer of “Mi Vida Loca” by Pam Tillis. He has shared the stage with country stars Blake Shelton, JoDee Messina, The Judds, Penny DeHaven, Lacy J. Dalton and others.
D.C. recognizes his mentor John Penny for opening doors for him that otherwise would never have been open and Stan Jr. for teaching him how to put a solid act together. High school classmate and fellow musician Carey Rush inspired D.C. to stay motivated and never be afraid to try new things musically. Bands through the years included “All His Children”, “The Dusters”, “Traz”, “Just Three”, “Stop, Look & Listen”, “The Stan Jr. Show”, “The John Penny Band”, Robin Right, “Topnotch”, “The Slyter Brothers” and “JoDee Messina”.
The M.C.M.A.A. (Massachusetts Country Music Awards Association) has honored D.C. Hathaway for Bass Player, Male Vocalist and Best Duet honors that he shared with singing partner Chris Anders. He has performed in Las Vegas at the Tropicana Hotel and audiences everywhere experienced his amazing transformation as Kenny Rogers.
Although Country Music is D.C. Hathaway’s first love, don’t be fooled. He can dazzle you with a wide variety of original music genres that he has penned and performed through the years. Currently, he is studying with Grammy award winning producer Jay Henry who has produced recordings for Prince and Bel Biv Devoe. D.C. owns Seabean Studios West, a recording and lesson studio where he is hard at work recording smooth jazz and easy listening original instrumentals for a Third Rock Records CD entitled “Lillie Of The Valley” which is scheduled for release in 2009. Some of these songs will soon be heard on PBS, ESPN and The Lifetime Movie Network.
D.C. Hathaway is MOST excited about producing, managing and playing guitar for Third Rock Record’s latest find…..Jessie Taylor. This beautiful and talented singer, songwriter, guitarist and violinist will leave you in awe of her versatility and stylistic vocals. Jessie’s debut CD “Through My Eyes” is also scheduled for release in 2009 and Seabean Studios West has the honors of recording it while D.C. Hathaway produces it.
As if that’s not enough, D.C. is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance at Southwestern College and will be transferring soon to San Diego State University. You’ll also find him in the classroom as an instructor occasionally teaching “The Art Of Songwriting”, a curriculum he developed that has gained popularity wherever D.C. Hathaway teaches.
So no matter where you find D.C. Hathaway, on stage, in the studio or in the classroom, he’s always eager to share his love and knowledge of music with those who are eager to learn with integrity, respect and professionalism. It is his faith in God that has sustained him to make a living at something he loves to do. We hope you enjoy the music and services of D.C. Hathaway.
