Millions of people have heard the infectious tunes of Bitter:Sweet via their debut album The Mating Game, as one of their many friends on MySpace, or in their favorite movies and TV shows. And, Bitter:Sweet faithfuls have been there for one of their tremendous sold-out live performances.
Since The Mating Game was released in April, 2006, a handful of the hottest producers have been selected to remix Bitter:Sweet tunes for vinyl singles, digital only releases and just for fun. Now, a collection of the best Bitter:Sweet remixes have been assembled in one place, on The Remix Game - the perfect partner to The Mating Game.
Bitter:Sweet has received a plethora of accolades from the press including The Los Angeles Times who claimed The Mating Game was “perhaps the best album of its kind since Portishead’s ‘Dummy’ was released more than a decade ago.” URB magazine called the album, “delicious,” and we can’t wait to see what they say when they get a taste of The Remix Game. With famed producers like Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Yes King and Skeewiff using the ingredients of the original songs to whip up a whole new dish, The Remix Game is bound to feed their hungry fans until the band release their sophomore album in 2008.
Bitter:Sweet combines the musical savvy of Kiran Shahani and the sultry vocals of Shana Halligan. Kiran emerged on the scene as a founding member of The Supreme Beings of Leisure. Signed to Chris Blackwell’s Palm Pictures, the band sold over a quarter million records worldwide. Shana is, of course, no stranger to the music industry. She has been a respected part of the Los Angeles music scene her whole life and grew-up in a household with father, Dick Halligan (Blood, Sweat & Tears). Together, Kiran and Shana have created Bitter:Sweet, one of the most seductive interpretations of retro swank and hot beats since James Bond was Sean Connery.
Many of the hottest television shows and movies have used Bitter:Sweet’s music, including Grey’s Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Entourage, Desperate Housewives, The Devil Wears Prada, Men In Trees, Brothers & Sisters, and many, many more. Korbel Champagne and Bebe also tapped into Bitter:Sweet’s head turning beats for their national advertising campaigns. It’s no mystery as to why their music is so sought after – one listen and you’re hooked.
Bitter:Sweet have garnered quite a fan base, as evidenced on MySpace where songs off The Mating Game have garnered over one million plays. They’ve sold out shows the first time they ever played in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, New York and San Diego. As the Daily Variety noted at the 2007 KCRW Sounds Eclectic evening, Bitter:Sweet delivered, “arty, apocalyptic party music [with] elegant lushness…”
The band has received countless notable accolades. They were awarded the Best Rock/Pop Album of 2006 at the Independent Music Awards. They are consistently ranked on top 20 of iTunes Electronic albums chart and in Billboard’s Top 50 Electronic albums chart.
