GENRE A cappella R&B doo wop
BIO Reggie, Tyrone, and Tony, the vocal group Alexx, have developed an extraordinary career while maintaining the tradition of a cappella, doo wop, street singing. This music gave birth to contemporary R&B and Rock.
Most people first heard Alexx on the streets of Old Town Alexandria, but they have appeared at the Kennedy Center, Constitution Hall, Apollo Theater, numerous community festivals, and countless conventions.
All three members of Alexx are gifted musicians and songwriters, but they have kept Alexx a purely a cappella group. Their only recorded album,"Street Elite" on ProJectS records, is a collection of songs from the 1940s, '50's, and 60's plus one original tune, "Jitterbuggin'."
After more than 30 years of singing together, the group officially disbanded in 2006, and the individual members are pursuing new professional goals. Fortunately, this important part of East Coast musical history is preserved in their “Street Elite” CD, the only recording by this group.
